Hair System vs Topper vs Toupee vs Wig - What's the Difference?

What's the real difference between a hair system, hair topper, and toupee? These terms get used interchangeably but they're not the same thing. Gentlemen X breaks it down.

Hair System

A full base covering the entire scalp or balding area. Bonded with adhesive or tape. Most common for men with advanced hair loss.

Hair Topper

A smaller piece that covers a specific thinning area (usually the crown). Attached with clips, not adhesive. Popular with women.

Toupee

An older term for the same concept as a hair system, still used in some regions. Functionally identical to a modern hair system.

Wig

A full head covering, not just a patch. Used when there's no natural hair left to blend with.

Which One Do You Need?

If you have some natural hair left and want a natural blend: hair system. If you just need extra coverage at the crown: topper. If you have no hair left: wig.
